Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Administration and Coroner’s Facility

This $20 million, 120,000 s.f. facility contains the sheriff’s administration offices, crime lab, evidence storage, radio communications, coroner’s facility, exercise and locker facility, information systems and technology, training facility, investigations, dispatch, records, office of standards, and human resources.

The structure for this three-story building is composite structural steel on drilled piers, structural studs with brick veneer, curtainwall, and membrane roof.  The site development includes asphalt paving, utilities, site concrete and landscaping.

Arvada Center for the Performing Arts and Amphitheatre

Within the Arvada Center interior rooms are practice rooms, theaters, dance rooms, classrooms, banquet section, full commercial kitchen with concession area, museum/gallery space, pottery studio and general office space.  Also included in this project was the total demolition of the existing facility.  It was gutted to its structure and completely rebuilt including new mechanical and electrical systems.  A serpentine “earth wall”, designed by Vito Aconci from New York, began outside and continued along the main corridor inside the building.  It cost approximately $85,000 and is made with metal stud construction with plywood backing with various colors of dirt glued onto the surface.  It is enclosed in glass and glazing system. The walls look like a giant terrarium.  The addition nearly doubled the size of the facility.

The outdoor amphitheater included a stage and pit, lawn seating as well as fixed seating.  Playful architecture, colors and angles characterize this post modern structure.  The stage house is constructed of precast walls which stand 40’ high, some of the tallest clear span wall panels in Colorado.  The pit can accommodate up to 30 musicians.  Aluminum vine artwork is attached to the exterior of the walls, and aluminum bird houses and bird baths are sprinkled along the walkway around the amphitheater

The Center was completely operational throughout construction.

A new race shop and office building for Hendrick Motorsports and Jeff Gordon’s #24 DuPont and Jimmie Johnson’s #48 Lowe’s (NASCAR Winston Cup Racing Teams) includes extremely high end Lobby finishes are of anigre wood panels, epoxy terrazzo floor in a waving checkered flag pattern, and extensive aluminum and glass displays.  The 2nd floor contains Jeff Gordon’s private offices and the offices of all support staff.  The balance of the facility is for engineering offices as well as Cup car finish fabrication, painting, and setup. The Lobby contains memorabilia from Jeff Gordon’s and Jimmie Johnson’s careers including uniforms, trophies from each victory, and #24 and #48 display cars.  Jeff Gordon leads a video tour through the facility on several plasma screens throughout the space.

Bear Creek WPCP Expansion

Expanding the City of Hampton’s wastewater treatment capabilities, this brand new facility includes a new influent pump station, headworks structure with grit equipment and mechanical barscreen, aeration basin, clarifiers, ultraviolet disinfection and post aeration structure, RAS/WAS pump station, digesters, dewatering and maintenance building, lab/administration  building, process piping, electrical and instrumentation. Once the new facility is operational, their existing facility will be de-commissioned and demolished.

Yamaha Motor Corporation

This expansion to Yamaha’s existing facility consists of a two story office addition (40,00 SF), warehouse space (200,000 SF), and an outdoor storage building (10,000 SF) consists of a structural steel frame with insulated precast panels as an exterior skin, a TPO roof system, an ESFR sprinkler system and a sitework package that includes approximately 65,000 CY of dirt to be removed from the site.

Universal Alloy

A leader in the design and mill production of aircraft extrusions, repeat client Universal Alloy has constructed a 104,000 aluminum extrusion tempering plant, later adding an 84,000 SF addition. The facility is constructed of structural steel on 80’ x 80’ bays of tilt-up exterior and single ply ballasted roof. The warehouse features two 50’ x 10’ dry-and-rise extrusion pits, four cranes totaling 80 tons, and the largest horizontal extrusion press in the world.

Savannah Morning News

Choate Construction completes the 145,000 SF newspaper press and distribution facility and the 120,000 SF office building for the Savannah Morning News. The distribution facility includes two presses and an ink tank farm with extensive process piping. A three stage completion is required to accommodate the press installation. Construction is structural steel and tilt with brick veneer.

The three story Class A corporate facility’s design began before the completion of the production facility using the same architectural components of brick and cast stone insulated tilt wall. The most challenging aspect of the design was to mirror the façade of the production facility having a 12’ floor height with a 15’ floor height for the office building. The buildings share a common entrance and reception area. A central rotunda with a 36’ diameter CFRC dome custom light fixture simulates a skylight in the apex. The rotunda boasts a terrazzo floor highlighting a three color compass rose with brass insets of the four major compass points which hint of Savannah’s nautical history. The interior of the building emulates the classical architecture of downtown Savannah while the exterior use of full depth tumbled brick for pavers, natural slate, divided light windows, and wrought iron fences and gates bring the feel of “Old Savannah” into this unique space

Live Oak Public Library

Infused with natural light and vivid color schemes, this LEED Silver library is designed with many features that make it appealing for all demographics.  A story room, activity room, auditorium, library store, children/youth/adult sections, computer areas, study areas, auditorium, catering kitchen, and the quiet outdoor gardens complete with water features make this addition to Chatham County’s library system stand out from the rest.

Federal Aviation Administration

Choate Construction performs the stunning office offering much-needed space for the ever-expanding Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This 100,000-SF headquarter office provides room to consolidate multiple branches into a single facility.

FAA pushed the normal limits of tilt wall with its four story height and maximized openings; both the tilt and steel erection were staged and coordinated perfectly with each other.

In addition to extensive security and back-up systems, high-end finishes such as thick-set honed and polished Walker Zanger tile, Natural Birch Pecan wood paneling, and a custom glass feature wall make this building an impressive home for the FAA.
