Union Way

Lewis transformed two underutilized buildings in Portland’s West End into a new, open-air pedestrian alley connecting the two buildings and providing a passageway from West Burnside to Stark Street. This one-of-a-kind urban retail experience creates indoor and outdoor spaces for eating, drinking and shopping. The AIA award winning space houses a collection of shops and restaurants that create a fresh, authentic retail experience for merchants and their customers.

The project was the recipient of the 2013 AIA/Portland Design Awards – Mayor’s Award for Design Excellence; 2013 AIA/Portland Design Awards – Mayor’s Award for Design Excellence; and 2013 AIA/Portland Design Awards 2nd Place People’s Choice.

Other work has included smaller new buildings and remodels, plus tenant improvements such as J.Crew, Blue C Sushi, Eileen Fisher, Tommy Bahama, Fiorini Sports, Bartell Drug, Mud Bay Granary, Mailboxes, Etc., Storables, Pottery Barn Kids, Mercer, Market Optical, and Bright Horizons.

Plymouth Meeting Mall

Located in a suburban transportation hub at the intersection of the turnpike, Northeast Extension and the Blue Route, the Plymouth Meeting Mall redevelopment was vital for the livelihood of the surrounding community. The redevelopment began with the demolition of the old Ikea store to make room for a 143,450 square foot lifestyle addition with an underground 350 car parking garage. New tenants in the addition include Whole Foods, Citibank, Ann Taylor Loft, Chico’s, Cold Water Creek, Jos A. Banks and Aeropostale.

Shops at Park Lane

The 33-acre open-air urban village of Park Lane, situated between the DART Park Lane light rail station and NorthPark Center, was constructed to balance the lifestyle functions of living, working, dining and shopping. The vision was to create an environment that would blend lifestyle and power retail with offices, condominium and rental apartments, resulting in a memorable gathering place for the community in a harmonious architectural setting. Due to its proximity to the nearby NorthPark Center, parking demand was met by consolidating surface parking for existing office buildings into a seven-level parking garage and constructing a pedestrian-oriented retail environment along newly created shopping streets.

Rogers-O’Brien was the lead contractor on this Joint Venture with The Beck Group.

SuperTarget Southwest Plaza

Construction began by demolishing an existing Target store to be replaced with a new 205,000 s.f.  Target Superstore.

The new store construction was started prior to the demolition of the existing store to try to maximize the length of the construction schedule. The new store was founded on caissons with precast bearing on the caissons.

The entire perimeter of the store has a 7′- 0″ red brick wainscot with either texture painted precast or EIFS above. The top of the precast has an EIFS cornice piece all the way around the building. Above the cornice a sloped roof /mansard has a blend of Spanish concrete tile to give the building a Spanish mission look.

The site work and landscaping on the 11 acre site was very challenging as the surrounding shops, 6 story building and a bank had to remain open at all times.  The sitework was divided into at least 10 different phases each of which had to be completed before the next could start.

Extensive re-working of the fire/water service had to be completed prior to the start of the building construction and involved work in all the surrounding streets and neighborhoods.

KeyBank

The KeyBank projects consist of five (5) stand alone buildings, each 2,760 s.f., and totaling over $4 million.

Every facility is scheduled to be constructed in 4 1/2 months.  High-end finishes throughout each bank include four (4) teller stations, restrooms, an employee lounge, a conference room, three (3) financial work stations, and three (3) drive up teller/ATM stalls.  Saunders has constructed 50% of the new KeyBank branch projects in Colorado for 2003 and is scheduled to start two (2) additional locations by the end of the year.

In addition to the stand alone projects, Saunders has completed several bank T.I. projects   located within existing King Soopers grocery stores.
