Choate Construction Company and repeat client Dominion Realty Partners broke ground Monday, March 24th on the newest addition to Raleigh’s downtown skyline, the Charter Square office tower. The 11-story office tower will encompass 260,000-SF of mixed use retail and office space. Designed by JDavis Architects, the exterior of the tower will feature attractive curtainwall, stone accents and striking metal elements at both the base and building cap. The building, which is one of two planned downtown towers for the developer, is being constructed atop an existing 583-space City of Raleigh parking deck. Charter Square will span the entire east-west block of downtown between Fayetteville and Wilmington streets, offering it’s tenants a prime downtown location along with the rare luxury of onsite parking. Once complete, Charter Square’s list of tenants will include Dominion Realty Partners, HDR Engineers, CBRE, JDavis Architects, Eschelon Hospitality and the law firm Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, whom will occupy the top two floors. With the current tenant commitments, the building is presently 41% pre-leased. “We are all extremely proud to announce the Charter Square ground breaking and look forward to another essential addition to downtown Raleigh,” said Andy Andrews, CEO of Dominion Realty Partners, in a statement. Construction on the tower is to begin immediately and is expected to complete in May of 2015.
