The Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Burr Ridge, Illinois is a 25,000-square-foot, single-story outpatient and DayRehab center developed for Med Properties Group. Designed by HDR Architecture, the facility serves as a specialized medical office and rehabilitation environment focused on outpatient care. Construction began with the demolition of two existing mixed-use office buildings and the surrounding parking lots to make way for the new facility. The project included significant site redevelopment, including new underground utilities, site work, expanded parking, and landscaped exterior areas. Architecturally, the building features a mixed-material exterior façade and prominent clerestory glass curtain walls that bring natural light deep into the interior. The design creates a modern healthcare environment while giving the building a distinctive presence within the surrounding site. Inside, the facility includes a full rehabilitation AbilityLab build-out designed to support therapy, mobility training, and other outpatient rehabilitation services. The interior spaces feature large open treatment areas, specialized rehabilitation equipment, and extensive glazing that contributes to a bright, open atmosphere. The completed facility combines purpose-built rehabilitation space with modern architectural and site improvements, creating an accessible, welcoming environment designed specifically around the needs of patients receiving outpatient and DayRehab care.

Chick-fil-A’s Atlanta corporate campus represents an extensive series of construction, renovation, and expansion projects totaling more than one million square feet. The improvements support the company’s continued growth while creating specialized environments for product innovation, employee collaboration, training, leadership, technology, and workplace amenities. Major projects include the 30,000-square-foot Food Innovation Center, featuring four test kitchens, food laboratories, offices, storage, and employee amenities. Multiple simulator environments recreate working Chick-fil-A restaurants and kitchens, allowing Operators to train with authentic equipment, counters, dining areas, and drive-thru configurations. The broader campus program includes new and renovated offices, a 12,500-square-foot childcare expansion, Digital Experience workspace, Main Building Administration offices, Pen & Hatch spaces, Lincoln building renovations, and exterior hardscape improvements. Flexible layouts, demountable partitions, collaborative workstations, advanced audiovisual systems, architectural millwork, and distinctive finishes appear throughout the projects. Additional work includes the 31,000-square-foot Hatch 1.5, extensive improvements to the headquarters entrance at Buffington Road, a Leadership Hub, restaurant simulator pods, and a 14,500-square-foot First Response Center. Together, these projects demonstrate a long-term approach to adapting Chick-fil-A’s headquarters as the organization grows, combining functional workplace improvements with highly specialized environments designed around how its employees and Operators work.

Rogers-O’Brien transformed Texas Health Rockwall through a 115,000-square-foot addition and renovation, significantly expanding the capabilities of the fully operational acute-care hospital. The project combined a 64,000-square-foot expansion with 51,000 square feet of renovations across nearly every department. A two-floor vertical overbuild created a new four-story bed tower, while major clinical improvements included a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, tripled childbirth capacity, a cardiac catheterization lab and interventional radiology suite, and redesigned surgical and emergency departments. A stand-alone Central Utility Plant was also constructed to support future campus growth. The complexity of the project was heightened by the need to maintain uninterrupted patient care throughout construction. Work began as the COVID-19 pandemic emerged, requiring the team to rapidly double the hospital’s oxygen capacity to accommodate patient surges. Construction ultimately involved more than 200 infrastructure shutdowns while navigating an active helipad and the historic 2021 Texas freeze, all without disrupting daily hospital operations. Completed on schedule in summer 2023 and under budget, the project returned more than $159,000 in unused contingency for additional patient-focused improvements. The result is a substantially expanded healthcare campus designed to serve Rockwall’s growing community while demonstrating the precision and coordination required to deliver major construction within an active hospital environment.

Academic Complex 1 is a new 84,000-square-foot, three-story academic building at Los Angeles Valley College in Valley Glen, California. Delivered by Pankow for the Los Angeles Community College District and designed by QDG Architects, the $90 million project expands the college’s instructional, administrative, and student-focused facilities. The building includes 24 classrooms, four flexible classrooms, six computer labs, a skills demonstration and testing classroom, and a large lecture classroom. An administration suite provides offices, workstations, and support spaces for more than 70 faculty and staff, along with public restrooms and other supporting facilities. Beyond the building itself, the project includes more than 200,000 square feet of site improvements. These improvements encompass a 42-space staff parking lot, a new campus drop-off entrance and turnaround, new utility connections, and a substantial underground stormwater retention system. The project also redesigns the college’s historic quad and introduces extensive new hardscape and landscaping. Outdoor classrooms and gathering areas provide additional opportunities for students to socialize, collaborate, and engage with the campus environment. Delivered through a design-build approach with DSA approval, Academic Complex 1 achieved LEED Gold certification. The completed facility provides flexible spaces supporting educational, cultural, social, recreational, and leadership programs while enhancing the overall academic experience for students, faculty, and staff.
